In the background are musicians seated behind music stands and holding their instruments on their laps. The photograph was taken for the Kalamazoo Gazette. According to Gazetteer articles published between March 26-29, 1943, the Kalamazoo Central High School presented a 300 cast variety show entitled "Yanks--Our Thanks" in order to honor those serving in the armed forces. The entertainment featured the evolution of America in dance, dramatic skits, and music.
