Certificate verifying that Christian Pflugmacker [i.e. Pflugmacher?] was part of the first company of the German Washington Guards in Philadelphia. Top half of print is a hand-colored lithograph showing four men in military uniforms. Three of the men hold rifles with bayonets attached. In the background many more soldiers are seen standing in formation.; The following is printed in the lower margin of the print. Text in brackets was hand-written: "I certify that [Christian Pflugmacker] has been uniformed and equipped according to law, and that he has served as a member of the first compagnie German Washington guards in the city of Philadelphia for the term of [seven] years. Philadelphia, [December 24th,] 18[42.] 1st Lieut. commanding, [John B. Kohle.]"
