B-24 Liberator

B-24 Liberator

Description:

Away on its maiden flight climbs the 5,000th Liberator built by the Ford Motor Company at Willow Run. More than half of the total Ford bombers were built in the first six months of this year. Ford has been building these B-24s at the approximate rate of one every hour.; Up off the runway at Willow Run goes the 5,000th Liberator on its delivery flight to the Army. Ford pilots take the planes to a nearby Army base. As many as 42 planes have been delivered in one day (this occurred in April when bad weather held up deliveries for several days).
