According to local sports researcher Bob Schichtel this is a 1949 preseason picture of the returning letterman from Calvin College. Coach Chuck Bult crouches in front of (L to R) Hazen Brummel, Maasie Vander Bilt, Sam Cooper, Duane Rosendahl (palming the ball), Elmer Ribbens, Elmer Walcott, and Slug Slager. Note that the Grand Rapids Herald referred to palming the basketball as a "stunt."
