According to local sports researcher Bob Schichtel Three of the best players in State of Michigan in 1950. Godwin Heights #17 Art Spoelstra is defended by East Grand Rapids #11 David Nash with help from #10 Dave McLaughlin in a Grand Valley Cconference game at East. Godwin would win 50-40. Both teams would do well in the State Tournament with East winning a Class C State Championship. Both Spoelstra and Nash would be named All State and McLaughlin All State Honorable Mention in 1950.
