Basketball, Herald carriers league
Description:
Two young boys and coach with basketball. According to local sports researcher Bob Schichtel the Grand Rapids Herald sponsored the Grand Rapids Herald Athletic Association with twelve uniformed teams named after comic strip characters (Joe Palookas, Lil' Abners) organized into two leagues. They played a twelve week season within the Grand Rapids Recreation Department. Pictured is Wally Schuknecht center, sports director of the GRHCAA with newly uniformed #6 Gerald Touser left and #12 Donald Jordan right, two of the fifty carriers who would play.
