Bob Schichtel, local sports researcher, further describes the photograph: This is a picture of the featured speaker at the City Championship Luncheon put on by the Grand Rapids Herald recognizing the Grand Rapids South Basketball team. The speaker was Central Michigan University basketball Coach Danny Rose. Rose, in center, was the head basketball coach at South High School in the early 1930's. Rose is flanked by Heinie Martin, Herald Sports Editor on the left, and John Wurz, Editor of the Grand Rapids Herald on the right.
