Bob Schichtel, local sports researcher, further describes the photograph: This is a picture of the 1949 Grand Rapids South High City Championship Basketball team at the Grand Rapids Herald Luncheon. In the center South Coach Pat Patterson, kneeling, and Central Michigan Coach Danny Rose holding the championship trophy. The Trojans surrounding the presentation are, from left to right, Jack Andreason, Lee Morrow, Chuck Oldt kneeling, Dick Kinney, Jack Carroll, Ralph Brown, Bruce Bigford, Frank Krueger, Manager Tom Borden, Dan West, Larry Grim, Jack Kirby kneeling, Rodney White, and Fred Esslair. Central Michigan University Coach Danny Rose was the Varsity Coach at South High in the early thirties and the basketball arena at Central Michigan is named after him.
