A well-dressed dandy with a holstered pistol displays "able-bodied" men available to serve as substitutes to a frail-looking, timid man standing in the doorway. The sign to the room where the men are carousing, in various states of inebriation, reads: "Substitutes for sale. Supply of able-bodied men always on hand.
