Dr. Pearl Kendrik
Description:
Dr. Kendrik was a bacteriologist with the Michigan Department of Health who developed (with Grace Eldering) the first successful vaccine for whooping cough in the 1930s, which all but eliminated a disease that had taken the lives of thousands of children. Kendrik and Eldering later combined shots for diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus into the single DPT vaccine given to children today.
