Election in Baltimore, November, 1862.
Depicts a street scene in which reputable looking citizens holding papers labeled "Independent Ticket" and "Democratic Ticket" are being intimidated while questionable characters with Union tickets are being encouraged to vote. A rowdy crowd of Union sympathizers parades under "Hail Columbia--Happy Land" and "Union or nothing" banners. At left, the "Proclamation of General Dix" is posted on an exterior wall. In the distant background, the monument to George Washington which stands in Mount Vernon Place, Baltimore, can be seen.; Reprinted in the 1880s from original plates created by Volck in the 1860s.
