Godfrey Lee Athletic Field Gate
A photo of the athletic field gate. The field is located on the east side of Godfrey Avenue SW, between Lee St. and Joosten St. The arched sign is supported by two brick pillars with decorative lanterns, and plaques on the pillars. The plaque on the left shows a relief bust of a man, Jacob Kroodsma,and below are the words This entrance dedicated to be known as Kroodsma Gate In memory of his loyal service 1915 1937. The plaque on the right states Godfrey-Lee Field Built 1936 A.D. In cooperation with Works Progress Administration. Below that are listed the Board of Education members: Henry J. Beld, Pres., Hattie Walcott, Sec., Jacob Kroodsma, John DeMaar, J. Edwin Nelson, George Rose, and Horace A. Caudle, Treas, Roy S. Head, Supt., and Engineer, J. O Barkwell. In the background is a chain link fence, the field, and buildings for Kelvinator are beyond the field.
