Papal brief in Latin
A Papal Brief (also known as Apostolic Briefs or "litteris [litterae] Apostolicis") written in Latin. The brief offers greetings to a "beloved son", offers commendations and "confers on you a conspicuous ecclesiastical dignity," and, as a reward for Hackett's labors, allows him to wear purple clothing including a Rochetum, as well as granting permission to "use and enjoy each and every one of the honors, privileges, prerogatices, indulgences, which other ecclesiasticla men may use." The letter was given at St. Peter's in Rome, "under the ring of Piscatroi, on the 18th day of the month of May, in the year 1940 of our second Pontifacate." The brief is signed by Joanni [John] R. Hackett. Apostolic briefs were the least formal papal documents and where often used to answer specific questions about petitions, inquiries, ecclesiastical offices, grants of privileges, and approvals of statutes or regulations.
