Uncle Sam, in eighteenth-century costume, ushering Abraham Lincoln into the White House. Stephen A. Douglas, John C. Breckinridge, and John Bell present their claims but are told they are too late. At window of the "White House," James Buchanan, with "Dirty Linen," bewails his "Notice to pack, up and quit without a character." Cf.
