Depiction of the Battle of the Thames between American forces under the command of Colonel Richard Johnson and Native Americans allied with the British, under the command of Tecumseh. In the center are scenes of hand-to-hand combat, including Col. Johnson on horseback fighting off an attacker on foot, and a Native American warrior scalping a fallen American soldier. Tecumseh stands at right, holding a spear. Key beneath design identifies numbered individuals and scenes in the action.; Published as fold-out frontispiece illustration in, "History of the discovery of America ... and their most remarkable engagements with the Indians," by Henry Trumbull (Boston, 1828), and in subsequent editions.
