View of French naval forces under the command of Chevalier de Ternay engaging British forces during the invasion of St. John's, Newfoundland on June 27th 1762. Several French warships appear in the distance as British artillery can be seen firing from the beach at landing craft approaching the shoreline, while British soldiers take up firing line positions. Dead bodies are strewn about the beach, while at center-left there appears to be a fictitious depiction of the town of St. John's with fortified walls.; "Vue de la descente des Francois a l'Isle de Terre Neuve" appears written in reverse along the upper margin.; "No. 38."
