Welcome to the new Michigan Memories!
If the name “Michigan Memories” is familiar and you visited our site before, we hope you like our new look. This Michigan Memories is a completely new site, rebuilt from the ground up.
Just like before, you can search through records from cultural institutions (archives, libraries, museums, historical societies) from all over Michigan–now over one million photographs, diaries, letters, even some audio recordings!–all in one step. Search for any topic you like; if an institution in Michigan has an online collection about it, you will get a result, even if that topic isn’t specifically about Michigan. Every search result also has a link that will let you see the record on the institution’s own website, which may have more information that will help your search.
(Please do visit their websites! You can always come back here afterward.)
And there are some new things too:
- We have a blog to share news about new collections and cultural events around the state.
- An Education section that allows us to highlight records that apply to Michigan’s school curriculum and can save teachers time in looking for interesting photos and other records for their lesson plans.
- An Exhibits section to explore and celebrate Michigan for anyone curious about its history and people (though don’t be surprised if we slip in some interesting things about the rest of the Great Lakes too).
We hope you enjoy our new site! We’re looking forward to making new exhibits and educational resources for you, and please do subscribe to our blog so we can keep you up-to-date on what we do next.
